RSS Feed: LiCo - The New Linux Counter Project https://linuxcounter.net The New Linux Counter was created in order to replace and revive the good old, original Linux Counter Project on counter.li.org. Alexander Mieland has taken over the project to revive it with a modern and uptodate engine and design at 14th of august 2011. The intention was to develop and support the counter project and to rework it with a new design and new code in order to pay attention on the new php, html, css and javascript possibilitie. The original counter project was somehow dead for a very long time (over four years) and thus the statistics were not accurate any more. As soon as the new project is finished, the old counter.li.org will get redirected completly to the new project en Thu, 17 May 2012 00:13:59 +0000 Thu, 17 May 2012 00:13:59 +0000 LiCo - The New Linux Counter Project https://linuxcounter.net https://linuxcounter.net/gfx/logo.png [News] We are still alive and not inactive! Please be aware, that I'm actually not able to do any support on this platform. But any requests about password or login problems and any other contact emails are and will be stored and handled as soon as I've arrived my new home.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Just be patient and wait for my answers to your requests.

I want to announce the complete shut down and redirecting of counter.li.org to linuxcounter.net.

Yesterday evening, Harald has created the redirections and thus The New Linux Counter Project on linuxcounter.net now is the main and only Linux Counter.

There are still some very less statistics missing, especially the detailed statistics for the country and cities, but these will come very soon, so stay tuned!
Most of the statistics that were also part of counter.li.org are integrated and there are also some new and other statistics on the new counter.

I want to welcome all linux users!
Please tell everybody to register for the counter to get counted as a linux user!

Sincerely yours
Alexander Mieland]]>

Today, I've now found a trac plugin, that provides this ability without any hacking needed. So you now can login without the need of register a new account. Just use the same user data as for the linuxcounter.

Unfortunatly trac actually only creates session cookies. That means, that after closing the browser, you will be logged out and need to login again. Maybe I'll find a solution for this too.]]>

  • The server environment has changed! We are now using nginx together with the varnish cache, php-fastcgi and the standalone server of trac. Actually the varnish cache is deactivated, because of some configuration issues I still have to figure out. But the access and the responses are much faster than before with Apache.
This was initiated due to very high load on the server because of an article about our project on slashdot.org.
  • We now have a completly newly rewritten update script! This script now uses native bash and doesn't rely anymore on a mailserver. It now also detects the distribution and its version. And it also contains an update notifier if the version you have is too old.
  • Login process and session management completly rewritten. There was an error in the session management that has caused a new session on every click.
  • Added the display of online users record on bottom of the page.
  • Machine summary statistics finished.
  • Implemented much nicer bars for percentage display
